How to compare flight prices without overpaying

By the Safarly team · Updated 1 November 2026 · 4 min read

Compare the total price, including bags and seats, check the airline and connection times, and make sure you are booking with a company you can contact.

Use a comparison site first

A flight comparison website shows fares from many airlines and agents together. It is a quick way to see the range of prices for your route and dates. You can try it in the "Compare flights" box on our Flights page.

Look at the total, not only the fare

Check baggage, seat choice, card fees and change rules. A cheaper fare with no bag can cost more than a slightly higher fare with luggage included.

Check the journey

Look at the number of stops, how long you wait between flights and whether you change airports. Short connections can be risky and very long ones are tiring.

Know who you are booking with

Book with a company that has clear contact details and a way to reach a person if something changes. Keep your confirmation and booking reference.

Quick answers

Are comparison sites free to use?

Yes. You search for free and book on the site you choose. The site may earn a commission from the company you book with.

Is the cheapest fare always best?

Not always. Check baggage, connection times and change rules before you decide.

Rules, fees and entry requirements change. This guide is general information, not legal advice. Always check official sources and your supplier's terms before you book.
